The New School
Construction of the new school is proceeding as funding becomes available. The new school will support over 300 children. Right now there are 180 children. The school complex is on land purchase by Aid2Africa. It will consist of three toilets, a well, a kitchen, staff and admin rooms, a pre-school and eight classrooms. As each classroom is built furniture and supplies must be purchased.
In the future we would also like to add a Cafeteria and a Library. Electricity would also be a great asset to enable audio and visual educational resources and ceiling fans to improve comfort.
Thanks to Aid2Africa funding, six new classrooms have been built so far. This leaves two more classrooms, an administration room and a staffroom to be completed. Each new room of the school costs about $5000.
Plans for the New School
The new school will look similar to this.
To begin, the old classrooms were dismantled. Then rebuilt on the new site to start the first two classrooms of the new school. Here are some pictures of the new construction.
New School Construction Projects
PROJECT: Construction of Remaining School Rooms
Four more rooms are left to build at the new school. Each new room of the school costs about $5000. Each classroom is essentially a pole building with sheet metal sides and roofs. They have cement floors. They have no utilities.
In the future we would also like to add a Cafeteria and a Library. Electricity would also be a great asset to enable audio and visual educational resources and ceiling fans to improve comfort.
PROJECT: Classroom Furnishings
An empty room is not enough. Desks and chairs need to be built for the children and teachers as each new classroom is completed. This project will fund furnishing the remaining classrooms.
PROJECT: Install Electricity
The lack of electricity is a real obstacle at the school. Besides a lack of adequate lighting, it prohibits the use of audio/visual teaching aids. It also prevents the use of fans for cooling. Remember, these buildings have sheet metal walls and roofs. They can be very hot.
This project would pay for the hookup to the power grid, a socket box and meter, a main circuit panel and breakers, required wiring to each classroom, wiring devices such as switches and receptacles, and light fixtures.
There is an additional need to add security lighting for the school yard and toilets.
PROJECT: School Security Fence and Gates
Moi’sBridge is located in the heart of the Rift Valley in East Africa. There are dangerous wild beasts. This fence is for the safety of anyone on the school property. The fence consists of an impenetrable Thorn Hedge, plus two gates.
